My name is Channel "Nel" Williams and I'm an illustrator living in Long Beach, California. I am a person of multiple cultures, as my father is African American and my mother is from El Salvador. In my work I like to include a lot of my own personal experience and little bits of me. Thus a lot of my characters end up resembling me in some sort of way. I love reading manga and comics and I love to consume other forms of media such as animation. Thus, a lot of influences from this media make it's way into my work.
I am bisexual, and thus, it is in the bisexual manual to be a caretaker to many pets. I have a leopard gecko named Doug, a corn snake named Linguine, and two cats named Noodle and Tobias. I love all animals of all species, especially the ugly ones! I love to include all sorts of critters in my own personal work.
Currently, I am writing and illustrating a children's book named Snaggletooth, a book inspired by my dear departed Hobo Cat. Hobo Cat once broke into my house and decided that was his home, and I wanted to translate that energy into a children's book!
In 2020 I also founded Altered Reality Collective, or ARC with 2 other artists. We are currently creating a graphic novel series called Dimensional Drifters together, set to be released in 2021! I am the lead artist and scriptwriter on this project. It's a sci-fi series that centers around a group of teenagers.
After many years of ups and downs in my art career, I can now understand the kind of artist that I am. I am a story centered artist- someone who needs a colorful backstory along with the image!
